New Zealand Work Permits and Visas
Working Holiday Visa: The Working Holiday visa allows you to work and holiday in New Zealand and is available for 18 - 30 year olds from select countries.
You must:
- Have a passport from the United States of America that‘s valid for at least three months after your planned departure from New Zealand
- Not bring children with you
- Hold a return ticket, or sufficient funds to purchase such a ticket
- Have a minimum of NZ$4,200 available funds to meet your living costs while you’re here
- Meet New Zealand's health and character requirements
- Hold medical and comprehensive hospitalisation insurance for the length of your stay
- Be coming to New Zealand to holiday, with work being a secondary intention for your visit
- Not have been approved a visa or permit under a Working Holiday Scheme before.
Student and Trainee Visa: The Student and Trainee Visa or Permit (section WE1b) is available for students who wish to fulfill a course requirement by undertaking practical work experience in New Zealand.
Students who want to fulfil a course requirement by undertaking practical work experience in New Zealand must:
- Meet New Zealand's health and character requirements
- Provide evidence of support of their educational institution
- Provide evidence of an offer of work from a New Zealand education institution or employer.
