Costa Rica Volunteer Projects
You can choose from a number of volunteer projects. At this time our projects include:
Volunteer Work With Deaf and Blind Volunteers
Help to educate deaf and blind adults and children by reading them books and participating in recreational activities.
Public Schools
Assist students with educational and recreational activities.
Child Welfare Authority
You'll work in a government organization that operates shelters throughout the country for abandoned and abused children. Some of the children are waiting to be adopted while others will return to their parents if their home situations improve. You'll be encouraged to build the children's self-esteem through educational and recreational activities. Volunteers for this project must have previous experience working with children or teenagers.
San José Zoo
This small zoo is located in proximity to downtown San Jose. It exhibits animals native to Costa Rica, as well as a few exotic animals. You will be responsible for animal care and assist with administrative tasks.
Volunteer Work With Underpriveledged Children
This nonprofit organization runs schools for children from poor neighborhoods. They not only provide the facilities, teachers and materials, but also food and clothing. Volunteer work includes teaching English and doing recreational activities with the students. Donations of new or used school materials are more than welcome.
Nursing Home
There are approximately 30 permanent residents and 10 people receiving day care only in this home. The majority of its funding comes from donations and fundraising efforts. Volunteer work includes serving food, playing table games with the residents.
