Animal Rescue and Care in India
Rapid urbanization throughout India occurs at the expense of many animals’ health and wellbeing. Areas once inhabited freely by animals are quickly being encroached upon by urban development. These unfamiliar urban environments leave animals vulnerable to mistreatment, disease, and inadequate nourishment. In cities like Jaipur, where poverty and poor infrastructure consume most of the community dialogue, taking care of neglected animals is usually considered a distant priority of the government and private social activists alike. India has laws in place that protect animals but they are not effectively enforced, nor are they taken seriously by most of the community.
Volunteer activities may include:
Outreach animal rescue missions
You'll accompany an ambulance around Jaipur, identifying sick and neglected animals. The ambulance will transport the animals back to the shelter, where the proper medical care can be administered.
Animal Rescue Hotline
You'll assist the administration and call-taking of an animal rescue hotline, where concerned citizens can call to inform of a specific neglected animal.
Adoption Program
You'll run a wide-reaching adoption program, helping to promote the community’s embracement of stray cats and dogs. All adopted animals will receive free medical care from the Animal Rescue Campaign.
Community Educational Awareness Campaigns
You'll launch creative awareness campaigns in community centers and local schools to stress the importance of caring for and adopting stray animals and provide information on how to assist the animal rescue initiative. You will distribute advertising pamphlets that include the hotline number and encourage adoption.
Vaccination and Sterilization programs
Volunteers will assist a vaccination and sterilization campaign. Rescued animals will be sterilized and freed of potentially harmful diseases.
