Camel Safari - (Jaisalmer, Rajasthan)

The excursion to Jaisalmer is an exciting experience for most volunteers in Rajasthan. The trip features a Camel Safari, riding through India’s most expansive and geographically stunning Thar desert region. The beautiful sand dunes stretching across Western Rajasthan attracts adventure seekers from around the world. All participants ride on their own camel, accompanied by the camel’s trainer, and ride through the day until finally reaching the camp site. After setting up camp, a bonfire, a deliciously cooked dinner, and the shinning stars above, make the desert feel like home. At the conclusion of the safari, participants can spend their free time exploring Jaisalmer, the most famous city in Western Rajasthan and one of India’s most renowned tourist destinations. Nicknamed the “Golden City,” Jaisalmer stands on a ridge of yellowish sandstone, surrounded by ornate temples, artistic monuments, and the vast , mesmerizing Thar Desert.

Program Itinerary:

Day 1 (Saturday)

Early morning breakfast at camp
Board taxi for 2 hour taxi ride to Jaisalmer
Arrive to town early afternoon and participate in group sightseeing at Jaisalmer Fort
Take a packed lunch or select a restaurant of your choice in the town.
Board taxi for 1 hour drive to reach the town of Khuri, where the Camel Safari begins
Ride camels through the Thar desert for 3 hours, ending around sunset
Set up camp, and enjoy tea/ snacks over sunset
Watch a special Rajas thani folk dance, preformed for the group by local rural villagers
Eat a deliciously cooked meal at the camp site
Enjoy a peaceful night’s sleep , after a long day of adventure

Day 2 (Sunday)

Early morning camel ride back to Khuri
Have breakfast at loca l hotel
Return back with group in early afternoon as per scheduled
OR
Stay in Jaisalmer for remainder of day, shopping, eating out, and exploring the many local places of interest. Then make your own arrangements back to the camp, by bus or taxi (at own expense)
