Peru Volunteer Projects
Volunteer projects in Peru include:
| Alternative Schools |
| You'll work in an institute that offers alternative learning to children from kindergarten through secondary school. You'll create educational materials, present them to teachers and students, and explaining how to use them. |
| After-School projects |
There are several after-school projects available, working with students ages 3-17. Activities may include helping children with homework, playing games, organizing creative or physical activities, and organizing workshops. |
| Centers for Physical or Mental Rehabilitation |
| You may choose whether you prefer to work with children or adults. Projects may include working in a nursing home and working in a hospital for patients with psychological problems. Various activities working with adults relate to the care of elderly people. These activities may include giving the adults personal attention, assisting with recreational activities, and serving meals. |
| Children: Working with handicapped children, children who are deaf or mentally disabled, or malnourished or undernourished children. You may be asked to assist in classes working with disabled children, help develop educational materials, help children participate in workshops related to developing life skills, organizing activities, and preparing meals. |
| Center for Social Rehabilitation For Adults: Working in a women’s jail. |
| Cultural |
| Projects may include working in a museum, a zoo, or a center that aims to preserve and promote traditional weaving techniques from the area of Cuzco. |
| Emergency Services |
| Fire brigade assisting in emergency cases: fires, floods, accidents, etc. You may also be asked to work in maintenance or administration. |
| Hospitals |
| Projects in hospitals are suitable for medical and nursing students or individuals who have had prior experience in this field. Duties vary depending on the your experience. You should be ready to help out wherever you are needed. |
| Orphanages |
| Volunteer activities vary in each orphanage. Generally you will be teaching life skills or trade work such as carpentry, baking, or shoemaking to the children. In addition, volunteers are asked to help the children with their homework. |
| Playschools/Kindergartens |
| You will assist the children and their teachers. Some activities may include teaching English, helping with homework, and organizing physical activities. |
| Sports |
| You will help train, coach, and organize sports tournaments for impoverished children from different schools in the surrounding area. |
| Street Kids Projects |
| These projects focus on helping children who live on the streets or who must work to help support their families. In this project environment these children are able to relax, meet other children, learn, and eat. You will help the children with their homework and organize workshops, which teach life skills and trade skills. |
| Tourism |
| Volunteers interested in working in the tourism industry can gain experience in one of four different tourist organizations in Cuzco. Duties may included administrative tasks, coordinating orientation meetings, organizing airport transfers, helping to sell tours and excursions in Cuzco, or helping to create new programs. |
