Australian Jackaroo/Jillaroo School Option

For those who aren't familiar with the term, jackaroos and jillaroos are farm or station workers who learn about life on a station as they go. You’ll stay in bunkhouse accommodation, eat with the station staff and learn about horse grooming, saddling and shoeing even before you mount a horse. Then you ride through rough, hilly country and wade through rivers, learning about bush craft and bush tucker along the way. Muster sheep and cattle and learn how to build fences, rope and lasso animals, control working dogs, and even shear sheep. You’ll learn how to work with your horse the natural way, by using communication, knowledge and psychology. The program fee includes meals and bunkhouse accommodation, pick-up and drop-off at the YHA hostel in Tamworth, all activities, and assistance finding a farm job. This is a great opportunity if you want to ride horses (or learn to ride horses) swim the horses, practice lassoing and fencing, and learn to round up cattle while enjoying some real Aussie farm hospitality!
